We had rain yesterday evening...again. It wasn't much or even a very long rain spell, but the yard is so soggy that it just made the rain pool in almost every area. I told hubby he might as well leave the chickens in the coop this morning, their yard is under water again and that's after he had put more dirt in the low spots. Just means I have to make sure their water and feed dishes are full inside the coop. I'm so tired of being waterlogged and yet we have three more storms heading our direction. Can I just curl up and go to bed until this is over...say until...uuummm, I dunno, maybe January?
The morning has started off fairly nice, humidity is a bit lower than it has been, but of course the sun hasn't been blistering it for very long at this point. The temperature is hanging right at 80 and we have a very light breeze coming in from the east.
Between the rain and the mosquitoes, going outside is becoming a major chore. I've been using Cutter's Deepwoods repellent for years...like over thirty years now...hubby picked up a couple cans the other week and this formula says its an eight hour, waterproof, Sport formula. Ok, so I spray like normal. It does seem to work well, but then I've never had a problem with the Cutter brand. Every time I've used this spray though, I've ended up with a major headache after an hour or so. As I am prone to allergy and sinus headaches when the weather is weird, I didn't give it much thought. After several days of headaches in the evening hours, I finally put two and two together...I'm having a reaction to the repellent. I decided to test my theory by not going outside for several days...no headaches during that time. Definitely the repellent...I tested it out by putting it on again a few days later...bammmm...headache within an hour. So sucks, because I really prefer the Cutter brand...after looking at several of the formulas sitting on the shelf at the store, I went back to the pump spray formula. I've used that one many times with good results...hope it will not be another headache creator. My girlfriend says its just because I'm getting older...pftt, yeah right! Let's not go there!
My plants for the most part are being drowned with all the rain. So far, I've lost Four o'clocks, Rhubarb, Lavender, Mint and Thyme to the heavy rains....Never thought I'd see a Four o'clock drown! The Lavender is in one of the raised front flowerbeds...it looks like it just withered up...same with the Four o'clocks, just withered and died...if we hadn't had so much rain when it happened, I'd have sworn they looked as if they were needing watered. All this wet weather has kept me out of the garden patch....too wet to work it and I have to wade to get to it. I'm just over it all at the moment.
Being under flood warnings and watches is almost the same as being under severe drought conditions in my mind...can't use much water because we don't want to risk overloading the septic system. Thank the gods that they actually used their brains when this system was installed. It is a raised tank and that at least kept us from having issues when the yard became a swamp. But, as we continue to get rains and the yard has no place for the water to go...I'm limiting how much washing of dishes and laundry gets done. Hubby and I have showered together for years, so that helps with water usage too. I know its not MY problem if the septic begins having issues, but at the same time, it would be my problem to deal with the disgusting mess if it decided to back up.
SIGH...I'm tired of being chewed by mosquitoes, waterlogged and confined to the house....Its making my mood foul and creating depression. Every shot on the news shows people wading through calf to knee deep water all across the state...I'm soo over this already and more on the way??? Just shoot me now!

Its making my mood foul and creating depression. And yet this was such a funny entry! But since you sound like you might be ready to choke someone, maybe you and I should form a team. Haha! I'm sure January won't come soon enough for you, and yet it will still come too early for me. Ugh, and I know you wouldn't want to trade places. LOL!
ReplyDeleteAt this point DJ, I'll even consider the cold, grey, dreary, snow laden days of January up north...LOL...its just been one of those days...depressed to the point of tears. I'm better now and looking at the position of Hanna, I'm hoping they are right about her track...she's being a ornery little cuss in her own right...twisting and turning, looping back and forth. I just don't trust how she's acting and Ike right on her heels...could form one of those 'perfect storm' situations if ya know what I mean. God that makes me sound paranoid...hahaha. Don't mind me, I'm just waterlogged....giggle
ReplyDeleteI don't think you sound paranoid. These forecasters are very good at getting things wrong, even during the last few hours before landfall. The least they could do is look out the window once in a while. LOL!
ReplyDeleteMan, don't I know it...here this stupid storm is sitting practically on top of our coast and still moving NW, the radar is SHOWING the bands moving over us and still they keep saying...'she's moving north and not going to make landfall in FL'...LOOK at the radar for cryin out loud!!! Not to mention the fact that we can actually SEE the clouds moving across and FEEL the wind and rain as it hits us..UGGGHHHH...morons...just for that, I hope Hanna sits right where she's at for the next few days and waits for IKE...that'll teach them! Of course, it will make things even soggier than they are, but hey...they are the ones who said Hanna was North of us...hahahaha
ReplyDeleteWeird. LOL. Well, I was shocked when I read that FL would only get one or two inches of rain from Hanna. That didn't sound right.
ReplyDeleteLast report says she's 110 miles east of Daytona Beach, still tracking NW...but the bands are still handing rain out over most of our east and southeast coastline...sigh...just be glad when hurricane season is over...
