Hanna's outer bands sat spinning over most of the state until around 2 pm...the weather advisory said she was about 110 miles off the coast of Daytona at that time. Until then, she was on a NW heading...sometime around 2 pm, she finally began her North turn and spun further up the coast...while she sat just offshore, we managed to be rained on for most of the morning. Sometimes hard, other times very light...the rains fell throughout the day.
Hubby was back home by about 8:30 am, he just left at 7 am...seems the boss and his son headed to pick up a piece of equipment, got caught in the heavier rain, as hubby was on his way to the shop. Once he got to the shop he discovered the son had parked his airboat in one bay, a couple of motorcycles in another and began dismantling a riding lawnmower in the other bay....none of this was there last night when hubby left. Shortly after he found the mess, the boss called to let him know he should call it a day as the yards had all closed because of the rain...great...just what we need another month where he gets to work a whopping 13 days...figured it out the other day and that's about what he worked for August...13 days. Its really eating up the savings with the way things are going.
We ended up taking a ride south of us to New Smyrna...about a twenty minute drive...finally got a chance to check out the two campers our friend had told us about....nothing great or worth hauling five hundred miles to the mountain. Looked as if it had been hit hard at the top in front...had been 'fixed' but the sides were also 'bowing' and the seams were beginning to separate. Definite issues.
While we were in the area, hubby decided we should go for ice cream...ok, as long as I no longer hear the words "you need to tighten up a bit" come out of your face...and he wonders why I gain weight! He's the junk food king!
After our ice cream, we decided to go back through town and go back the way we came so we could check out another camper that was sitting on the corner of the main highway and our main road...this one is nice. Got the number and gave the person a call...$6500...its a 1998 Dutchmen...looks to be about 22 feet. The tag says its out of Michigan, but it was a local number. The kitchen is on one end, living area in the middle and the bedroom on the other end...this from looking through the windows. Hubby says its still more than what he is wanting to spend...I say from what we've seen listed in the Trader magazine, its not a bad price. Guess we're still looking.
The temperatures hung around 82 degrees most of the day...all the cloud cover kept the humidity down at least. Finally had to turn the A/C back on after the sun began to set as the humidity came back to suffocating...just when I thought it might get some time off.
Now that Hanna has moved on north of us, the weekend is supposed to be rainfree, hot and humid...back to normal. The rain we got today wasn't much, but it was enough to return the yard to holding puddles in the higher parts. My path to the back of the coop was standing water this morning...its been squishy, but not standing. The chickens remained inside today as their yard is once more a soggy bog.
Since I've not been able to get any type of work done in the garden area, the only things I have going at the moment are tomatoes and cantaloupes...the Cantaloupes are some that self seeded in the chicken yard and then I transplanted them to the urns out by the fence in front. At this time, they are blooming like crazy and sprawling over the sides of the urns...looking good! The Tomatoes are the starts I took from the ones in the garden. Right now, they are growing well in the planter set in the front bed. My Basil is looking like its suffering from too much water and its in a large pot. I'm just disgusted with the water damage to all the plants...everything is showing just how unhappy the water has made them...ever see Basil pout? Some parts of the drowned Four o'clocks were beginning to 'fluff out' again...looked more like a normal leaf than has been hanging on it...the rest are all withered tight...not sure now that we've had more rain. Even the Rue is looking stressed. Poor Mint has almost disappeared, only a few stragglers are hanging on. Hmm, I forgot to look at the other pot of Thyme, one has already succombed to water damage.
I hope the remainder of the weekend is good...I'm needing some time without rain.
